BioActive Dehydration is an air drying process capable of dehydrating freshly harvested Klamath Blue Green Algae with virtually no loss of color, flavor, aroma, enzymes or nutrition. This method preserves Klamath Blue Green Algae’s natural essence while preventing any degradation associated with conventional drying techniques. The primary causes of degradation in conventional drying techniques are: high temperatures, duration of exposure to high temperatures, deep vacuum, and oxygen exposure (oxidization).

In the drying process, heat is by far the most critical factor in essence preservation. Both temperature and duration of exposure effect quality. Many components of a botanical’s natural essence are more vulnerable when the product is wet than when the product is dry. This delicate dehydration process is carefully designed to be the coolest when the product is wet, thus ensuring maximum nutrient preservation.

During the drying process the algae exceeds body temperature (98.6 F) for less than two minutes while never exceeding 105 F. The process uses a proprietary Oxy-Guard technology which involves the use of an inert gas that shields the product from oxygen degradation during drying. Not only is the maximum temperature (105 F) very low during the drying process, but the algae reaches its peak temperature when nearly dry, this is the key to maximum nutrient preservation.

The most effective method used to evaluate overall product quality is by monitoring specific marker nutrients such as molecules or protein structures that are unstable and sensitive to heat, oxidation, and enzyme degradation. Analyses are performed comparing data from before, during and after processing. Samples are also taken after packaging and tested. When Klamath Blue Green Algae powder is added back into water and then tasted for flavor, aroma and nutrition, the reconstituted mix is nearly identical to that of freshly harvested algae.
